Fuji Harbor (aka Fuji Fishing Port) has one of the best seafood markets on Taiwan's northern coast, and specializes in the locally caught Crucifix Crab. In addition to the Mexican Hat shaped market, there are also quite a few restaurants here. It is definitely worth a stop for all seafood lovers in Taiwan.
Historical Background: Fuji Harbor originally was a very small fishing harbor along the coast. However in the year 2000, plans were made for a tourist fishing port. The construction began in 2009 and was completed in 2011, and began operations in 2013. The architect was Vicente Guallart, and the building was meant to be shaped like a bunch of Mexican hats. The most popular seafood here is the Crucifix Crab, but other crabs, octopus, and lobster are also popular. The area of ocean here sits at a confluence of sea currents, bringing an abundance of nutrients here for the crabs to eat. On weekends and holidays the seafood market is usually packed with people.
