Hongdao Night market is a small night market that opens twice a week at the border of Xizhi and Nangang in New Taipei. It is one of many small night markets around Taiwan that are only available a few nights a week because there are not enough people to keep it going every night of the week.

Prices are relatively cheap but have been rising in recent years. I think it is representative of most small town night markets in Taiwan, of which there are many, that most tourists don't know about. You can book a Private Street Food Tour of Taipei on TripAdvisor here, KKday here, or Klook here.
The entrance to the night market is small and parking is limited. Although there is free scooter parking inside.
The most popular food in the night market, large portioned sweet potato balls.
In the past, the most popular food here was octopus balls, but those have now been replaced by sweet potato balls.
Next to the sweet potato ball stand I always get some boba milk.
Waiting for my red bean cakes at Hongdao Night Market in Xizhi. Actually only one had red bean, and it was the worst. The best were Oreo, cheese, butter, and taro flavors. Peanut butter, blueberry, and chocolate flavors were okay.
Getting all the best wheel cake (車輪餅)flavors this time. From left to right, chocolate, cheese, Oreo, tarp, and butter.
I saved the best flavor of all for last, ice cream flavored wheel cake (車輪餅). Just a ball of ice cream inside a normal red bean cake.
There is lots of outdoor seating at the night market.
About the best oyster omelet you can get in Taipei.
There are also two steak places here with the same price.
As you can see only a year ago the prices were 20 NT cheaper.
The boss getting our steak ready.
I have no pictures of the steak, I always eat them too quickly.
Fried chicken.
Rice and sausage hot dog.
Vietnamese restaraunt.
Douhua pudding place that was just shutting down. Have to get there early.
Stinky tofu across the street.
View from the middle of the night market.
Airplane taking off from Songshan Airport.
There is also an ancient Sanheyuan brick home here, which is very much still lived in. It stands as a relic to the past in a very overdeveloped part of the city.

Author 作家I am an American expat who has extensive experience living, working, and traveling in Taiwan. In my day, I had to learn many things about Taiwan the hard way. But I have come to learn that Taiwan is one of the best places in the world for Foreigners to live. This blog does not represent the opinions of every foreigner in Taiwan. I am just trying to help others learn more about this beautiful country. Categories
