Background:
From the company website: "Shin Yeh Taiwanese Cuisine got its start in 1977 in Taipei on ShuangCheng Street and was the founding brand of the restaurant group. At that time, Taiwanese food was not generally considered as banquet food. For the most part it was sold from streetside stores only as small dishes. If you wanted Taiwanese banquet style, you would go to north Taipei, to Bei Tou, or you could get a full meal under a tarp by the side of the road. The natural terrain of Taiwan, being a mountainous island, provides food ingredients that are incredibly flavorful, juicy and fresh. Shin Yeh features the natural flavors as it composes masterpiece delicacies. When local people taste what they grew up eating, their childhood memories spring to life. The company founder invited two specialists to bring authenticity: the dessert specialist Master Guan Mao Yin and Bei Tou restaurant Master Chef Chen Wei Nan. For the restaurants, they developed numerous Taiwan style delicacies, now universally praised. In addition to small, cold side-dishes, specialty rice porridges and many home-style flavors from the street transformed into restaurant dishes, there are now Shin Yeh signature must-taste dishes such as Fried Pork Liver, Traditional Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs, Braised River Eel, and after-dinner Almond Tofu, Almond Tea, Glutinous Rice and other classic Taiwanese dishes. Using traditional authentic taste as its foundation, Shin Yeh continues to innovate, keeping in step with the times. Over the past 40 years Shin Yeh has grown alongside the people of Taiwan and relentlessly exerted itself in Taiwanese cuisine. It has become not only what overseas Chinese miss deeply, but also the preferred restaurant for our foreign friends visiting Taiwan." 《MICHELIN Guide Taipei 2024,2023,2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 Selected Restaurant Website: https://www.shinyeh.com.tw/content/en/brand/About.aspx?BrandId=1 Price: About 100 - 1000 NT per dish. Shin Yeh offers probably one of the best atmospheres and best quality to enjoy Taiwanese food. It's a much better eating experience than a crowded, loud, and hot night market. I booked a meal voucher for a discount via KKday here and I recommend you do the same. The meal voucher saves you about 20% off and you do not have to pay an extra service fee!
Right near the restaraunt is Shuangcheng Street Night Market, which is a large eating and shopping area near Zhongshan Elementary School MRT Station in Zhongshan District in Taipei. The night market includes an open “food court” stall area and a closed market area that sells clothes and other items. Even though it is a relatively small night market, it is one of the oldest and most well-established in Taipei.

They have lots of employees here waiting to take you upstairs. It is best to book this restaurant in advance.
I handed the lady my meal voucher from KKday and we went up stairs.

A pot of tea with a warming candle is set on the table.
Our first dish was sliced mullet roe (烏魚子), in other words the egg sack of the mullet fish. This appetizer may be an acquired taste for some Westerners. To me it is like eating really salty butter. But the spring onion and white gourd make it go down smooth.
We were also served some very savory and flavorful prawns, cooked with a strong aroma of black pepper. Prawn are a very popular Taiwanese dish.
Next we were served perhaps the most traditional Taiwanese dish of all time: braised pork (滷肉). The pork was soft, flavorful, and delicious. It is like the equivalent of Taiwanese bacon.
Next we had fried rice which was flavorful and delicious.

Next we had fried spinach which was also delectable.
Also we had claim soup with spring onion and ginger, which was also delectable.
For dessert they also gave us seasonal fruit and mochi balls.
