The scooter lane coming off the Taipei Bridge from Sanchong into Taipei onto Minquan West Road is one of the most impressive traffic sights in Taiwan, and has become an iconic photo destination. Rows of 10-20 scooters across and 20-40 scooters deep. So there can be about 200-800 Scooters on this bridge ramp at a time.

I used to live in Sanchong, and I have driven a scooter over the bridge hundreds of times. For me it is always fun to be inside a sea of scooters especially when the traffic clogs up. As a foreigner in Taiwan, it is an exciting experience that I would never see back home in the US. The reason that there are so many scooters in Taiwan is because of convenience. They are easy to park, inexpensive to maintain, and can carry lots of stuff. For short distances it is the transportation of choice, especially when driving a car means renting an expensive space, and taking public transport can mean lots of walking and a longer commute time. Also, the weather in Taiwan is usually warm so riding a scooter is actually pretty comfortable most of the year. You can book a Motorcycling tour of Taiwan and more on Klook here. I have taken a lot of photos and videos of this place and I will show them below:
Above is a video in real time of me driving over the bridge on a scooter during rush hour.
Above is a video in real time of scooters coming down the bridge.
Above is a sped up video of scooters coming down the bridge, looped for one hour. It is kind of mezmorizing to watch.
Another wide view from under the bridge.
Another great view is on the pedestrian bridge above Minquan West Road a few hundred meters from the bridge. See above for a video.
Another longer version of the scooters coming off the bridge.
See above for another video of the crazy traffic at Minquan West Road.
If you want to take photos or videos of this place, the corner in front of the bridge is the place to be. There are usually always photographers there taking photos.
View from a cell phone.
View with telephoto lens.
Zooming in all the way.
I will just let the rest of the photos speak for themselves.
Minquan Footbridge
Another great photo spot along Minquan Road is the pedestrian foot bridge at the intersection of Minquan Road and Chende Road.
Thanks for reading. Hopefully through these photos you understand the crazy commute that happens every days from Sanchong to Taipei.

Author 作家I am an American expat who has extensive experience living, working, and traveling in Taiwan. In my day, I had to learn many things about Taiwan the hard way. But I have come to learn that Taiwan is one of the best places in the world for Foreigners to live. This blog does not represent the opinions of every foreigner in Taiwan. I am just trying to help others learn more about this beautiful country. Categories
