Shanling Haowangjiao Hostel in Hualien is a small hostel on top of a mountain above the east coast in Hualien. In provides amazing 360 degree views of Hualien City, the central mountain range, and the east coast, as well as a bunch of themed props to take selfies with. It is worth a visit if you have time.
Shanling Haowangjiao Hostel has 4 rooms. It is a unique hostel in Taiwan because basically they charge you to look at the view, and provide some snacks. I have never been to any place like it before.

How to get around in Hualien:
As always, we recommend renting a scooter as the best way to see Taiwan. However, you can also a great deal of Tainan by taking the train, inter-city bus, local bus, biking, or just walking. Getting around in a car is also a convenient option as there is plenty of parking pretty much everywhere in this less crowded county.

I have been up on the mountain in Shoufeng twice. Once was up at the Farglory hotel's lookout (Agoda / Booking.com), and the second time was to the Shanling Haowangjiao Hostel. Both are fun places to see the view, but Haowangjiao charges an entrance fee.
In order to get to the hostel, you will first pass the Farglory Hotel which is also on the mountain, and also offer amazing views.
You can book Farglory Hotel on Agoda or Booking.com. Sadly, Hao Wang Jiao Hostel is not listed.

Once inside, there is a huge parking lot and props to take photos with.
We did spend a lot of time taking photos with the props, but they are not shared here.

We are US Expats that have extensive experience living, working, and travelling in Taiwan. In our day, we had to learn many things about Taiwan the hard way. But we have come to learn that Taiwan is one of the best places in the world for Foreigners to live. Our blog does not represent the opinions of every foreigner in Taiwan. We are just trying to help others learn more about this beautiful country.
